IThe Problem You've Been Living With

It's Not Fat You Can  Diet Away...  It's Lipoedema. And Finally, There Is a Surgeon Who Will Treat It as a Disease.

MR. MICHAEL MOUZAKIS — A.K.A. DR. MOOZ

You've been told to lose weight for years. The truth is that no diet and no gym was ever going to touch it, because diseased lipoedema tissue doesn't respond the way ordinary fat does.  Dr. Mooz treats lipoedema through his signature C.O.R.E™ Method: a four-stage clinical pathway built on lymphatic-sparing surgery, performed by the specialist who trains other surgeons in the technique.

IIHow You Recognise It

You've Lived in Two Bodies for Years. One No One Could Explain.

  • Two bodies, one person
  • Bruises at light touch
  • Won't shrink with diet
  • Boots that won't zip

A slim upper body. A lower body that swells, aches, bruises at the lightest touch, and won't shrink no matter what you do.  Clothes that fit on top and never on the bottom. Boots that won't zip over your calves.

You've heard it all... "Just lose weight." "Eat less, move more." "It's not that bad."  So you tried harder...  Stricter diets. More gym. Everything the advice said would work. And your legs stayed exactly the same.

Here's what no one told you: that's not a discipline problem.  That's the disease showing you it isn't fat.

IIIWhat It Actually Is

Lipoedema Is One of the Most Misdiagnosed Conditions in Women's Health.

Lipoedema is a distinct, hormonal disease. It causes abnormal fat to build up in the legs (and often the arms), bringing chronic pain, swelling, heaviness, and easy bruising.  It has no connection to lifestyle, and it does not respond to conservative weight loss, because the tissue itself is diseased.

That's why the diets failed. Not because you didn't try hard enough.

Cross-section comparison of healthy adipose tissue and lipoedema tissue
·

It's progressive

Left untreated, it advances. The fat increases, mobility decreases, and treatment later becomes more invasive than treatment now.

·

It's distinct from obesity

Lipoedema fat is structurally different from ordinary fat. It's why your upper and lower body look like they belong to two different people.

·

It's treatable

Not curable, but treatable. The diseased tissue can be removed, your mobility restored, and the disease managed long-term.

Which is exactly why the surgical approach matters so much.

Not sure?

Not sure if what you're experiencing could actually be lipoedema?

Most women live with lipoedema for a decade or more before it's ever named. A short 50" self-assessment can tell you whether a specialist consultation is worth your time.

TAKES UNDER A MINUTE

The Lipedema Test is an educational self-assessment only. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace a clinical assessment by a doctor.

IVWhy Standard Care Fails You

Lipoedema Tissue Isn't Regular Fat. Treating It Like Fat Is the Problem.

Standard cosmetic liposuction is built to change how you look.  It contours. It debulks...  But lipoedema tissue is threaded with a lymphatic system that is already compromised, and lymphatic injury is a recognised risk of liposuction.  That matters, because lymphatic injury can mean more swelling rather than less.

If your only goal were a slimmer silhouette, that might be a risk worth weighing. But your goal is to treat a disease. That demands a different approach.

Cosmetic liposuction

Built to change how you look. Lymphatic injury is a recognised risk, in a system already compromised by lipoedema.

The C.O.R.E Method

Built for the disease. Every stage protects the lymphatic vessels and treats lipoedema as the medical condition it is.

Standard Cosmetic Liposuction
The C.O.R.E Method
Aesthetic outcome (body contouring)
Disease management (pain, mobility, function)
A single procedure
Four stages, diagnosis to long-term maintenance
No specialist lipoedema knowledge required
Designed for lipoedema by a specialist who trains other surgeons
Lymphatic damage is a recognised risk
Every stage built to protect lymphatic integrity
Aftercare typically ends early
Ongoing monitoring, MLD referrals, compression support

Standard liposuction changes how you look. The C.O.R.E Method changes how you live.

So what does treating it properly actually look like?

A Patient Story · What This Looks Like In Practice

How the C.O.R.E Method really changed Annie's life for the better.

One patient · Four stages · Twelve months

Annie was diagnosed with lipoedema in January 2025, after struggling with her weight for her whole adult life. This is her experience of the C.O.R.E Method, in her own words.

Annie before her lipoedema surgery with Dr. Mooz
Act I — Before

“I had always assumed it was normal fat.”

"There are four stages of lipoedema, and I was classified as stage three on my legs and arms. They felt heavy, nodular and could be painful at times.

I had been a committed gym-goer for 15 years, and I could never change the shape of my arms and legs. Even when I did lose weight — eating just 800 calories a day — it only made me look more out of proportion. At my lightest, I was still 7 kilos heavier than I am now, and the smallest size I achieved was a 10."

I follow Dr Mooz on Instagram. He posted a before-and-after, and I thought: that looks like me — they could literally be my legs.
Annie during her consultation with Dr. Mooz
Act II — The Decision

A consultation, a plan, and a wedding to think about.

"I messaged him immediately and arranged a consultation. He explained what Vaser could achieve, and we agreed to start with the arms and upper legs — my worst areas — with the option of a second procedure on my calves if I felt I needed it.

The biggest issue was finding the money. My wedding was planned for Spring 2026, and my fiancé lent me the money as he knew it was important to me to have the surgery before the big day."

Dr Mooz is always great. I trust him with my life.
Annie after lipoedema treatment with Dr. Mooz
Act III — After

“Everything felt lighter.”

"I had the surgery in June 2025, and everything went smoothly. The recovery was exactly as Dr Mooz described — committed compression-garment wear and Manual Lymphatic Drainage as part of the pathway. I still go for MLD every two weeks.

I returned to the gym at 12 weeks. Where before I could work out for hours without seeing a difference, suddenly I could see muscle definition in my quads and triceps. The whole experience has been motivating, because for the first time I can see and feel the results when I put in the effort."

You've changed my life more than you could ever know.

VThe Protocol That Treats It Properly

The C.O.R.E Method: A Complete Pathway, Not a Single Surgery.

Dr. Mooz manages the condition.

The C.O.R.E Method is a four-stage clinical pathway that runs from your first real diagnosis to lifelong disease management, because lipoedema is chronic and progressive, and an operation alone was never going to be enough.

  1. Stage 1 of 4

    Clinical Diagnosis

The system fails women here first. The C.O.R.E Method starts where your GP stopped: with an accurate, specialist-led diagnosis.  For the first time, you get a real answer from someone who understands the pathology, not another guess about your lifestyle.

Consultation room — London Welbeck Hospital, natural light, calm and clinical
  2. Stage 2 of 4

    Optimisation

Operating on inflamed, fibrotic tissue without preparation means higher risk and worse outcomes. This stage prepares your body first: MLD referrals, compression guidance, anti-inflammatory and nutritional support, and psychological support. Where medical weight management is clinically appropriate, that is assessed and discussed with you as part of your plan.  It also confirms what you already suspected: the diet and the gym didn't fail because you did. The tissue simply doesn't respond, and that's expected.

Compression garment fabric detail — soft macro, neutral tones
  3. Stage 3 of 4

    Radical Fat Removal

The surgical stage: lymphatic-sparing liposuction. A specialist technique built to remove diseased tissue while protecting the lymphatic vessels running through it.  The technique does four things at once: debulking, emulsifying, gentle fat harvesting, and skin tightening.  Skin tightening — built into the technique, not an add-on. The goal is medical, not cosmetic: the aim is to reduce chronic pain and the load on your knees, hips and ankles, and to support a body that can function more comfortably. Published studies have reported improvements in knee flexion following surgery for lipoedema. Individual outcomes vary and cannot be guaranteed. This is the exact method Dr. Mooz uses to train other surgeons.

Operating theatre detail — instruments on tray, low light, no patient
  4. Stage 4 of 4

    Enduring Maintenance

Surgery removes diseased fat cells. It does not cure the disease. Care under the C.O.R.E Method continues well beyond the early post-operative weeks.  This stage gives you a lifelong roadmap: ongoing MLD referrals, specialist compression fitting, inflammation management, and support through the full recovery arc, which for lipoedema runs up to a year. This is how your result is protected over time. "It's not your fault, but it's your journey." — Dr. Michael Mouzakis And we will stand by you.

VIIWhat Actually Changes In Your Life

This Isn't About Thinner Legs. It's About Getting Your Life Back.

Physical

Significant reduction in chronic pain and tenderness. Lighter limbs that are easier to move. Less pressure on knees, hips and ankles. Less bruising and sensitivity. Protection of the lymphatic system itself.

Functional

Stairs without dread. Walking distances again. Standard clothes and footwear that finally fit. A return to exercise. Independence in daily life.

Psychological

An end to the cycle of failed diets and punishing routines that never touched the real problem. Relief from managing a condition everyone dismissed. Re-engagement with the social life that pain and fatigue had quietly taken.

Listen to Ellie describe it herself.

There's one more part of the journey worth being honest about — recovery itself.

VIIIWhat Recovery Actually Looks Like

The Part We Believe You Deserve to Hear First.

  1. Weeks 1–4
    Real recovery
  2. Weeks 2–8
    Most challenging
  3. “Swell hell”
    Swelling phase
  4. Month 3
    Functional improvement
  5. Up to 1 year
    Tissue remodelling

Recovery from lipoedema surgery is real recovery, not a weekend touch-up. The first two to four weeks involve genuine pain, heavy fluid drainage, and limited mobility.  Weeks two to eight are often the most mentally challenging. There's a swelling phase patients call "swell hell." Full tissue remodelling can take up to a year.

We tell you this on purpose. Because the patients who do best are the ones who were never caught off guard.  The C.O.R.E Method prepares you for the entire timeline, supports you through the hardest weeks, and continues long after the early post-operative phase.

Recovery timelines and results differ from person to person. What patients most often say afterwards isn't about regret. It's "I wish I'd done it sooner."

Individual experiences are personal to those patients and are not a prediction of your own outcome.

By now you have questions. These are the ones patients actually ask.

Important medical information

Surgery Carries Risks.

Lipoedema reduction surgery is a surgical procedure performed under anaesthetic. It is not a cosmetic quick fix and it is not suitable for everyone. Recognised risks include:

  • Bleeding, bruising and infection
  • Seroma (fluid collection) and prolonged swelling
  • Altered or reduced skin sensation
  • Scarring and contour or symmetry irregularities
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Lymphatic injury and, rarely, secondary lymphoedema
  • Blood clots (DVT / pulmonary embolism)
  • Risks associated with general anaesthetic

Recovery is real: pain, drainage, swelling and limited mobility are expected for a period of weeks, and tissue remodelling can take up to a year. Results vary from person to person and no outcome can be guaranteed.

Non-surgical options, including compression therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise, and conservative management, are discussed with you as part of your assessment. All risks, benefits and alternatives are explained in person before you are asked to consent. This page is general information only and is not medical advice.

Results vary. Surgical candidacy is determined only during an in-person clinical assessment. This page is for information purposes and does not constitute medical advice.

If those answers landed, only one question is left — what does booking actually mean?

XWhat Booking Actually Means

What Happens When You Book.

Because the consultation is a medical assessment, not a sales pitch.  If you're not a candidate, you'll be told so, and you'll leave knowing it.

Your consultation is an in-person clinical assessment with Dr. Mooz at London Welbeck Hospital, 27–30 Welbeck Street, London.  It's where the Clinical Diagnosis stage of the C.O.R.E Method begins:  a real specialist examining whether you have lipoedema, what stage you're at, and what the right pathway looks like for you specifically.

What it is
  • A specialist clinical assessment
  • An honest answer on whether you're a candidate
  • A personalised view of your pathway
  • Time with the surgeon himself
What it isn't
  • A sales appointment
  • A hard close for surgery
  • A generic, off-the-shelf plan
  • A brochure instead of an examination
Verified patient quote from Katie, 44: no amount of diet, exercise, or going back to the gym would help me get rid of the extra weight.
